With the glut of applications on the different stores today, it can be very difficult to determine what app is best for us. There are over 1.8 million apps available for download on the IOS store alone, and Android has even more numbers with 1.56 million apps. Therefore, an insight into how many downloads an app has therefore serves as a great index for measuring the value of an application.

I will tell you how you can get this information as a developer, and as a non-developer

How Developers Tell How Many Downloads an App Has on Google store

App creators and developers can very easily get this data on google play. Google has a policy that provides full analytics to creators to ensure that they can see what is working and what is not working.
The following steps are those that an app creator or developer can follow to see the statistics for their application:
      – Get into your google play console
      – You should be on the dashboard for your app, and at the top corner of your page, you should see the “Lifetime” option.
      – Click on that option to get all the statistics for your application. The statistics on this page give information about your application’s entire life span from the day it was launched up until the date you are checking. The metric that will be shown include downloads, uninstalls, average rating, and a ton of others.
      – There are category cards that can give you even more specific information about your application. Just click on any of the categories and click the export report option.

How do the rest (Non- developers) tell how many downloads an app has on Google store?

Google will not necessarily help you if you are a non-developer. The store only gives estimates on the number of downloads that an app has, and you can check it by clicking the download option for the app in the store.
However, several third-party resources can give you specific insights into the number of downloads that an application has. Some of these resources include App Radar, Mobile Action, and Sensor Tower. All these resources claim to give accurate information, but there is no way to verify that.
However, considering the success and popularity of the Sensor Tower, they must be doing something right. All you need to do to get your statistics from Sensor Tower is to create a free account, get on their interface and do a search for the application that you want information about.

What of The IOS APP Store?
Just like the google store, if you are a developer, you can check how many downloads an app has by the official analytics. All you need is to log into your app’s interface. However, for non-developers, there is no official way to ascertain this, and there will be a need to use external resources like those earlier discussed.

There you have it! Developers don’t have much problem, but in case you want information on an app you didn’t develop, those third-party resources will be of great help.
